Al Kincaid’s Story…
Al “Doc” Kincaid began his military service in November 1965, the draft was going to call him into service and joining the Navy with the hopes of seeing the world was a much more appealing option. After attending 14 weeks of basic training, Al entered Hospital Corpsman School for another 14 weeks at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital Corps School in Northern Illinois. Upon completing Corps School, Al spent a year at the Portsmouth, VA Naval Hospital before transferring to Camp Lejeune for Fleet Marine Force training. Upon becoming a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman, he returned to Long Beach, CA honing his newly acquired skills for a year.
Then in November of 1968, Al’s hopes of seeing the world were realized via a “trip” to Southeast Asia, he would be deploying to Vietnam. There as part of Mike Company, 3rd Battalion 1st Marines, “Doc” Al would fight alongside and help to mend his Marine Corps. Brother’s till November 1969. During his time in Vietnam, Al received multiple medals and commendations including the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Combat Insignia, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
With Al’s military service behind him, he embraced his newfound love and admiration for life, spending roughly a decade traveling and sailing the world; completing his longtime goal to see the world beyond Vietnam. In the early 1980’s Al settled, starting his family and getting back to his carpentry and construction roots. Al’s Father owned Kincaid Construction in Anchorage, AL where he grew up in the 1940’s and 50’s, Al would follow in his Dad’s footsteps. After years of successes and failures with small start up construction companies, Al and Diane Kincaid started the company that would become VALOR in 1996.
